About us
We are the third — and soon the fourth — generation of an independent family farm. We cultivate 8 hectares of organic vineyards on sunny, bora-breeze-ventilated terraces above Vipava.
The grapes are hand-picked, the yields are small and deliberate. The wine ferments spontaneously, matures in oak barrels, and goes into the bottle unfiltered — just as nature intended.
About us
Four generations - one story
MILESTONES
A century on the same land
1928
The beginning
Grandfather Jožef Krapež buys the Pr’ Potok farm in Vrhpolje and moves from Gora to the Vipava Valley. Without any prior knowledge of viticulture — but with a wife from an old-fashioned viticultural family and a will that was worth the entire valley. The story of the Krapež winery begins.
1971
Independence
Jožef Jr. signs a document at the Vipava Cooperative stating that he will not sell grapes to the cooperative cellar. Krapež becomes a completely independent winegrower and winemaker. A decision that will forever mark the identity of the farm.
1987
The third generation
The main responsibility for the cellar and wine is taken over by his son Martin. The new generation brings a more precise perspective — more in-depth, more attentive to nature and its rhythm.
1990
From vine to bottle
Prvi letnik lastne polnitve vina. Kmetija se povsem usmeri v vinogradništvo in vinarstvo — celotna pot od trte do steklenice ostane v lastnih rokah.
1999
The philosophy of less stressed vines
After the first vintage of barrique-aged wines comes a decisive direction: small yields, structured wines. From 1 to 1.5 kg of grapes per vine — quality over quantity. Nature has its say.
2026
Fourth generation
The beginning of the transition to organic farming — what we have felt for a long time becomes an official commitment. In 2023, we receive the organic farm certificate. In 2026, Martin's son Vid takes over the farm. The story continues.
MARTIN & VID KRAPEŽ
What nature creates, we preserve
When Jožef Krapež set foot in the Vipava Valley in 1928, he could not have imagined that this estate would endure for four generations. Today, Martin and his son Vid continue this journey with the same commitment — but with a clearer understanding of what the valley demands and offers.
We produce natural wines with maceration and spontaneous fermentation, aged in oak and acacia barrels. We filter nothing, we refine nothing more than necessary. Each vintage is an expression of that year — the sun, the bora wind, the rain and the patience of old vines on the marly soil.
We are known for our structured, long-lasting red wines. With the same philosophy and precision, in recent years we have stepped into natural white wines with maceration — Zelen, Malvasia, Poljšakica — varieties that the world is only just discovering, but we have been growing for generations.
Our Malvasia received a platinum award at the Decanter World Wine Awards. For us, this is confirmation, not a goal.
